OLE DB: The connection failed because user credentials are needed and Sign-In UI is not allowed.

Hello,

I am getting this error when trying to refresh a PBI data set within Excel.  This was working fine for weeks, and it still works fine for several other users, but for me I started getting this error and have found no way to fix it.  I have tried several different things such as clearing local and global permissions in data source settings within Excel, I have tried "Analyze in Excel Updates" that I found buried deep in a google search, and I'm just exhausted with this at this point.

My peers can open the exact same file and do the refresh just fine, I have no clue what to do to fix this.  It's an OLE DB connection string to a Power BI report to get the data into Excel.

Hi @travisg_06

This issue only happened to you ? Your colleagues can refresh dataset in the same excel ? Did you try to sign in your account in their computers ? Or you can ask your colleagues to log in to their accounts on your computer to test and determine whether it is a client problem or an account problem .

That is not possible to do, we are all remote workers in different states.

This user describes the same issue in a different forum 2 days ago:  OLE DB: The connection failed because user credent... - Microsoft Power BI Community

Is there a way to enable the sign-in ui?  Why is it not allowed?  There is no clear solution to this, and I have been searching the web for answers for days.

This issue has now been bothering me for more than a month. The issue happens with no discernable pattern and bothers others as well. Can someone please examine why it happens?

Yeah, why is this getting absolutely no support or follow up?

Hi @travisg_06, I did not manage to get this fixed. I have been checking periodically for updates but there seems to be no interest at Microsoft in fixing this issue. Maybe they were the ones blocking this form of access to PBI data models. I would be glad to be proven wrong of course.

My solution has been to have my administrator make dataflows for every table in the data model I was trying to copy. Feels very inefficient, but it works if you have that option as well. We really need a way to import a PBI data model directly into another dashboard without being limited to DQ. Until then this will have to do I guess.
