Microsoft Authentication Not Working for Snowflake Connection in Power BI Desktop Nov 2021 version

Hello,

We are having an issue with the newest update to Power BI (November 2021).

We have been connecting to Snowflake using our Microsoft Account through SSO for months without issue but when this new update was pushed through, we lost the ability to connect to Snowflake. It fails to authenticate even if we are signed in. The issue does not happen with the October 2021 version, only the November 2021 version. This has been tested with multiple users and the issue is only happening when we connect using our Microsoft Account.

Is there any workaround for this or an idea if this will be fixed?

Hi @lenu

As of now, we have received several issues related to authenticate to data source in November 2021 Power BI Desktop. This issue is mainly caused by the change of infrastructure of Power BI Desktop and this update should be checked in your Options by default. Please try these workarounds.

1 Uncheck Power BI Desktop infrastructure update and then try again

2 Check this option, but install WebView2 Runtime on the machine installed Power BI Desktop and then try again

3 Downgrade to October 2021 Power BI Desktop

Hello,

When we are adding an Oracle 12.2 Database as a data source in the Azure Data Gateway, getting the following error. Please note that from the same Virtual Machine where we have installed Azure Data Gateway, we could connect to the same Oracle data source with ODBC and also using Power BI Desktop which tells no issues with my conneciton string, user id and password:

GW Name:Unable to connect to the data source undefined.
Underlying error code:-2147467259
Underlying error message:An error happened while reading data from the provider: 'Object reference not set to an instance of an object.'
DM_ErrorDetailNameCode_UnderlyingHResult:-2147467259

Thanks,

Shajith

@v-cazheng-msft Hi and thank you for answering my question!

For Option number 1, I don't see the option to uncheck Power Bi Infrastructure update.

Version: 2.99.621.0 64-bit (November 2021)

Hi @lenu

Thanks for your reply! May I know whether you are using Power BI Desktop or Power BI Desktop for Report Server? Did you download it from Microsoft Download center

For your issue, if you clear your credentail as the follows and restart the connection, will your issue be resolved?

@v-cazheng-msft I am using PBI Desktop from the Microsoft Store.

If I clear my credentials, it is not resolved, tried it multiple times with existing files and new files.

We are having the same issues, using Azure AD to login to snowflake and every one has the same issues. and we don't have the option you proposed to uncheck. I have the Power BI desktop from windows store, running windows 10
