Issue with Power BI Service: reports are not saving

Hi,

There are multiple tickets with the same issue, but I didn't find any appropriate solution in those yet, that is why I created another ticket here. So, the issue is that in Power BI Service the changes are not saving: it's written it's been saved, but when refreshing the report, it's actually an old version. Sometimes it shows the 'saved' results, but after another refresh I see an old version again. I cleaned cookies and opened reports in Incognito mode - the problem remains.

I saw a solution of republishing dataset and re-creating reports. First of all, this solution could be only temporary one cause it takes enourmous amount of time with over 30 reports. Second, I tried this several times. Sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn't, so I cannot really say that this bug has been fixed.

I hope that Support team will find some long-term solution now.

Thank you in advance,

Kind regards,

Taisiya

@Anonymous,

Please provide more information for us to analyze.

1.What is your data source?
2.How do you refresh the report in Power BI Service?
3.Do you set schedule refresh for the dataset in Power BI Service?
4.How do you make changes to the data source?

Lydia

Hi @v-yuezhe-msft

Here is the info you have asked for:

1.What is your data source? - MySQL Server

2.How do you refresh the report in Power BI Service? - There are two ways: I refresh .pbix file and upload it online by replacing the existing one - I do this when I changed some queries in the .pbix file itslef. The second way I use is connection to MySQL Server through Enterprise Gateaway. It was always working normally till let's say September, when this error started to occure more and more often.

3.Do you set schedule refresh for the dataset in Power BI Service? - Not yet. Cause of many issues, I prefer to do it manually.

4.How do you make changes to the data source? - I don't make any changes there. Nothing has been changed since July. It was working perfectly in July-August, but in September, following exactly the same steps with exactly the same clients, reports and data source, I started to face the error.

Hope this helps.

@v-yuezhe-msft moreover, there is another related bug. I use Bookmarks to create Report Outline. And I usually duplicate reports in PBI service. Before there was not any issue, but now when I click to some bookmark, it magically transfers me to the 'original' report page from which this one was copied. I don't know how this is possible. It seems like there is a data leak between two unconnected reports.

And, again, I am in trouble with the same issue as before: report/page filters are not applied. I save them, I publish the report, and there is again a mix of everything. I really hope you will be able to solve this ASAP.

Hope to hear soon from you.

Kind regards,

Taisiya

@Anonymous,

Thanks for sharing me the video. I am unable to reproduce this issue using my PBIX file. What version of Power BI Desktop do you use? I would recommend you update to latest version of Power BI Desktop(2.64.5285.701) and re-publish PBIX file.

Also what changes do you make in PBIX file? What do you mean the old version? Do you mean that the undelying data turns to old version in Power BI Service?

Hi @v-yuezhe-msft,

Thank you for your reply. First, your questions:

I use the latest PBI Desktop version. Once again: I cannot re-publish PBIX files each time I have a bug, cause, again, at PBI Service I then need to re-make many-many reports which are related to this .pbix file

The scheme I use is like this: I have one .pbix file a.k.a dataset. I upload it with the general model online, to PBI Service. Then, I click 'Save as' to create new, per-client reports, applying per-page and per-report filters with Clients identificator or Segment identificator. I hope, you follow me 🙂

Issues: in Power BI sevice, when I change something to the report - NOT dataset but in a report - I click 'Save'. For example, in the majority of cases I want to filter out data per segment or per company. So I use Report level filters and/or Page level filters, OK? Then I click Save. I get a message that the report has been saved. Then I publish the report online. I open the link, and I see the report in the state it was before I applied any filters, so I see the unfiltered data. I really hope you understand the issue.

Another issue is that bookmarks provoke data leak inside one report. Please, watch a video I shared. Again, I use one dataset, uploaded from PBI Desktop as .pbix file to PBI Service. In PBI Service, I click 'Save as' to create multiple reports with the same visuals for different clients and business segments, OK? In each report I have an Outline with bookmarks which shoud transfer people to the selected page. BUT after I publish the report to the web, and I follow the link, and I click some bookmark, apparently it shows me random data from another client, as I showed in a video.

Did I explain myself clearly now? Do you understand my processes and the issues now? I will really appreciate your help regarding the issues.

Thank you in advance.

Kind regards,

Taisiya

@v-yuezhe-msft Hi,

I tried to do the following: I create a whole new report in PowerBI Desktop. I filter queries there to show me the data only for 1 company. I publish this report to separate workspace, then I publish it online. I open the link.... And I don't see any data, cause filters from PowerBI Desktop are not applied. So this is really a bug in PowerBI Service, related to bookmarks and filters. Please, do something about this. I really hope there is a solution. Thank you.

I am unable to reproduce this issue on my side. After I apply report filter, the publish to web link shows filtered data. In your scenario, could you please share a PBIX file containing dummy data which I can reproduce? Also you can share the video about the above issue and bookmark issue through Private message.

Hi @v-yuezhe-msft,

Right now it finally works, but once I face this issue again, I will share a screen recording with you. I am afraid, this might happen quite soon. Please, don't close the issue for now.

Thank you!
