Issue connecting Power BI Desktop to SQL Server

Hello -

 

Starting a few days ago, users are unable to connect to a SQL server (Synapse serverless SQL pool) via Power BI desktop.  "The serivce returned an invalid token.  Please contact your IT administrator if this issue persists."

 

Clearing credentials and re-entering them doesn't fix the issue.  We are able to refresh reports connected to this server in Power BI Service, and connect to the server using other 3rd party tools such as SQL Server Management Studio.

Hi @willtrickettwwd ,

 

Power BI has released the latest version on 12/9.please make sure you are using the latest version of Power BI Desktop.

If you are using managed identities for authentication, ensure that the managed identity has the appropriate permissions and is correctly configured. The user account should had the necessary permissions to access the Synapse serverless SQL pool.
Please also check your token used for authentication is not expired. and firewall settings allow connections from Power BI Desktop to the Synapse serverless SQL pool.
