Feb Release Bug - No error message on failed relationship link

Hi all

I have just come across what I think is a bug in the relationships view of PBI Desktop.

When I drag the primary key from one table to the key field of another table to establish a relationship (which has always worked) I get the standard popup for 'New Relationship'. However on both tables it says 'A preview of this table isn't available' which is strange as the tables are pretty simple. there is no message as to why

When i set the settings for the relationship, i tick the 'Make this relationship active' button and it doesn't provide any feedback as to it being unsuccessful, then I press 'Save'. I get the 'Working on it' and spinning wheel, but nothing happens, the relationship does not establish.

What i realised is there is in fact ambiguous relationships as a result, so that relationship I was trying to make can't work, once I removed those other relationships, I was able to successfully establish the intended new relationship. However, troubleshooting this took me an extra bit of time to work out, where as previously PBI told me that immediately.

In short - it seems there is no live relationship checking prior to saving the relationship.

Hi @GM_AZ ,

Based on the above information, this issue is complex which may need to collect log files for further troubleshooting. Since community support engineers don't have that access, I would suggest opening a Support Ticket. If you are a Power BI Pro or Fabric licensee, you can create a support ticket for free and a dedicated Microsoft engineer will come to solve the problem for you.
It would be great if you continue to share in this issue to help others with similar problems after you know the root cause or solution.

Creating relationship- Feb 2025 version of PBI I have a more basic issue, but found your post and thinking somehow its connected. I am facing issues creating relationships between table columns and displaying the result. Need to add that I am using a filter in the transform window to filter out a subset of data from Table 1 say on Col A of Table 1 the filter is applied on and only want the relevant information from Table 2 for the filtered values of Table 1 to be displayed. Table 1 and Table 2 are related on the filtered Col A of Table 1 to the corresponding column of table 2. The result is displaying blanks, and a workaround would be to filter out the blanks, but the relationship functionality is broken in my opinion. I did not have to do this filtering out in the past if the filter(transform window) and the relationship was defined properly.
