Corruption errors preventing files from being opened

My colleague and I keep getting these two errors over and over again when trying to open many of our Power BI files.

  • "File contains corrupted data. An error occurred while reading a compressed file."
  • "[File name] is corrupted and can't be opened by Power BI Desktop."

We're both using Power BI Desktop November 2024. This has been happening about every other day for a few weeks now. The past two days have been significantly worse. I've tried to open multiple files yesterday and today, and about 50% of them give me these errors and will not open.

Things I've tried:

  • Opening from File Explorer vs from Power BI. Sometimes one of these works and the other doesn't. Sometimes neither of these works.
  • Going to 'Restore previous versions' and doing a Save As on one of these versions without making any changes. Then an hour later, I'll try to open this copy, and it will also say corrupted.
  • Sometimes if I just wait a day I'll be able to open the file again.
  • Uninstalling and reinstalling Power BI. Reinstalling allowed me to open more of the files, but not all.
  • My coworker has no trouble opening some of the files that are giving me the corruption errors. Other files, she also can't open.

Does anyone know what the root cause could be for these errors? The workarounds usually work, but they can be time consuming and it worries me that I'm getting the errors more and more. Twice now I've had to redo 2+ hours of work because I can't get a file to open no matter what I try.
