Cannot export report file

Hi everyone,

For some reason from past couple days I cannot export any report from my workspace - It's returning message to contact with technical support and not much feedback to think about. Is there something wrong with our reports ord this is problem on Microsoft side?

Hi, @Anonymous

According to your description, I guess that it’s maybe because your tenant admin has turned off the "Export" or "Download" option in the Admin portal. You can go to the Settings-> Admin portal to check if these options have been turned off if you can log in to the admin account of your tenant.

You can also check the limitation of “Download as pbix” function in Power BI service:

Hi v-robertq-msft

This admin portal is something for premium users? I have pro account at the moment and I have all possible privileges to our workspace and its reports but after going to admin portal I can only see two things -  capacity settings and refresh summary.

Hi, @Anonymous

You have to be a global admin or Power BI service admin to access the Power BI admin portal.

Hi v-robertq-msft,

I've check admin portal on another account with admin priviledges and we have the same setup as you provided. Export is available for entire organization. I've noticed that we have such issue only with few reports, rest of them are exported as usual. We don't have any other issues with mentioned reports, they are working and refreshing as intended.

Hi, @Anonymous

If you only have such an issue with few reports, I guess that these reports are likely to be created on the Power BI service instead of the desktop. Because you can’t download the reports that are created on the Power BI service as pbix file. It’s also explained in the limitation document I posted above.

Hi v-robertq-msft,

It's not the case, all reports are created in Power BI desktop, I thought that I may done few changes in report through editor in browser, but after publishing raport from power BI desktop error remains. In my opition if this was problem related to power Bi limitation I should receive information about it, not advice to contact support.

Hi, @Anonymous

According to your scenario, I’ve also published on pbix file to service and changed the report to service, and I can successfully download this report and open it on the desktop. Therefore, I don’t think the problem exists here.

I think you should first check that you have upgraded to the latest version of desktop : March 2021

If so, the problem may exist in these points.

If you still have a problem, you can go to open a support ticket to get the help from Microsoft support:
