BUG: "Formatting options are unavailable for this visual"

In Power BI Desktop I am running into an issue where I cannot format visualizations that are part of a group. When selecting the visualization in the group and navigating to the Format visual tab, no options are available and it says "Formatting options are unavailable for this visual". The only workaround is to ungroup the visualization, make formating changes, then re-group it with the other visualizations. This has been happening for the past week or two. Sometimes it will let me format visualizations in a group, but most of the time it shows the message below.

Status: Investigating

Hi @jaykayelsemicol ,

I tried again and still can't reproduce the problem, also haven't found ICM reported internally. If the problem persists, I suggest you create a support ticket, it's free for pro user and a dedicated engineer will come to dig the problem for you.

I am experiencing this issue as soon as a formula is added to either a button, shape or text box.

Changing tabs or hide/unhide does not work for me.

I have the same issue. I'm using the on-object interaction preview feature, and it is showing up intermittently, but also consistently, several times a day. It doens't matter if the visual is grouped or not.

I am not sure if I posted this earlier, but what is always working for me at present is hiding and unhiding the object from the selection pane, at which the formatting options become available again.

@Mike250Amused I'll try that out, but nobody should have to do that. I am in a report right now where it occurs constantly, and it is a PITN. I think, I'll report this separately as a bug as well.

this is STILL an issue on the latest release of Power BI.

No matter how much you group, ungroup and move a visual up and down the layers, it remains that when the visual is clicked, the normal binding box is replaced with a light blule box and the formating options are unavailable.

It seems to happen completely at random, however more so when a number of elements are on the dashboard page - the more elements - the increasing likelihood of the bug kicking in. In which case, the only recourse it to replace the visualisation from scrath - which from a designers point of view is highly irritating.

Could we please have an indication on when this will be fixed?

@David_Ramos completely agreed, I cannot believe it still hasn't been addressed.

If you hadn't seen, what is working for me 100% of the time is hiding and then unhiding the element from the Selection pane. I want to avoid your trouble of replacing the visual.

@v-yanjiang-msft
This bug is not only happening when the visuals are grouped. For me it happens even when they are not.

@Mike250Amused agreed! Happens to me the same way! If I hide and unhide it, all good.

Waiting for the fix I feel like that Spongebob episode where it is like "1 eternity later...."  🤣

Still happening in October 2023, especially with visuals that have bookmarks that hide and unhide the visual. Incredibly frustrating and wastes a significant amount of time flipping back and forth between different pages of the report, which is the only solution I have found thus far.
