Issue: cannot load semantic model in report

When opening a report that is connected a semantic model, all of a sudden I get this message: "Cannot load model. We couldn't connect to your Analysis Services database. Double-check that your server and database names are correct, and that you have permission to access them."

When I open the semantic model, there is no issue. But when I open a report connected to that semantic model, I get this error. After closing the error, there is no option to connect to any data source.

What is the best way to solve this?

Hi @ROA

You mentioned that when you open the semantic model, there is no issue. But when opening a report that is connected a semantic model, all of a sudden you get an error .  Can you explain it in detail ?How did you open a semantic model ? Can you make sure that the account you are logged into on Desktop, has access to that semantic model ?

Hi Ailsa @Anonymous ,

Sorry for the lack of detail.

When I open Report X in Power BI service, everything works fine. When I download Report X with a live connection and open it in Power BI desktop, I see the following error:

After closing this error message, there is no way to get new data. The options are disabled.

After this, I downloaded the semantic model and opened it in Power BI Desktop. I don't get any error opening the semantic model. I also opened a new report to connect to the semantic model and I don't get any issues then.

My account has access to the semantic model.
