Programmatically trigger Power BI Service Subscriptions

We need an endpoint that would allow us to programmatically trigger a Power BI Service subscription, something akin to the Execute Subscription functionality that was part of SSRS / Power BI ReportServer. Benefits:

  • Leverage the authorization & export functionality present in Power BI Service; no need to "roll your own" export + email functionality in Logic Apps / Power Automate
  • Trigger the subscription as soon as data is ready and not before: prevent sending out the Weekly Point of Sale Summary if all the data hasn't finished loading until 15 minutes after the usual time.
  • No need to configure custom "from" identities for sending the emails
  • Subscription activity remains in the same platform as the reports rather than over in Power Automate / Logic Apps / Data Factory

Visibility into when the underlying refresh is scheduled would be HUGE here! Users have no way of knowing when the data refreshed when setting this up. Seriously great idea! (Seeing frequency of refresh would be great ie - 1 am, 10 am, 1 pm, choose your own best adventure). Bonus points if it showed something like "On Average, report is refreshed by 1:35 am, 10:48 am, etc" If end users see the report is scheduled to refresh at 10 am, they're going to assume they can get accurate data if they subscribe at 10 am.
