KQL Database shortcut (Follower) to follow a KQL database from a different region

Today KQL database shortcuts work within a region. Need the ability to follow a database that is hosted in a different region in order to avoid reingesting the data to the Eventhouse in the curent region but still be able to run analytics on databases that are hosted in this region and the follower DB that gets the data from the other region.
