select many items in the canvas with mouse area selection

Assuming I want to select several items in the canvas for design purpose, instead of select everyone with Ctrl + mouse selection, it would be nice feature to have the ability to drag the mouse over several items, and by doing that select them all

This is quite important. Not only for designing reports, but tableau also allows mouse area selection for points in a map, for example.

It is enormously frustrating to have to Ctrl+Click on multiple items - foundation-level basic functionality that's sorely missing. To add, the performance of Ctrl+Click is nuts - Once I get ot 2x selected items, the next one takes 10+ seconds!
