Add tagging functionality for reports in Power BI Service

Currently, there is no native way to add custom tags to reports in Power BI Service for easier categorization, filtering, and search.
I propose adding a tagging feature that would allow users to assign one or more tags to each report or semantic model.

Benefits:

  • Quickly locate related reports across workspaces.

  • Improve discoverability and organization without changing report names.

  • Enable advanced filtering and grouping in the Power BI Service interface.

Suggested features:

  • Ability to create and edit tags directly in the report’s settings or metadata.

  • Support for multiple tags per report.

  • Filtering and search based on tags.

Hi @PrzemekP , are you familiar with Tags in Microsoft Fabric ? I believe this should answer your requirements. You have to be a Fabric Admin to create tags, which might explain why you are not seeing tags in the system, let me know if this is the case.

We would like to be able to use tags applied across multiple reports in multiple workspaces as a search function. For example , maybe a user would like to see what has already been developed for "OTIF" reporting. We currently have Global Supply Chain and Regional Supply Chain workspaces where this type of content could be found, it would be a good way to browse what is already existing. The functionality should be similar to the Filter option in the workspace where you can select a tag to narrow your search. This option should be in the main page filter options, currently we only see "Type" and "Owner". Thank you

Hi, thanks for the tip. This actually solved my problem. Unfortunately, I do not have Fabric admin privileges, so I did not see that option. Tags are not defined in our company yet. regards Przemek

Allow role-based access Fabric Admins → create and manage tags Report Owners → assign tags Users → search and browse using tags Enable multi-tag filtering for faster discovery

Hi @anujachintala this is exactly how tags in Fabric works.

Tenant and domain admins create and manage tags, owners can assign them and users can search for them.

Take a look at the documentation: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/fabric/governance/tags-overview
