Problem: Currently, when a dataset is connected to a Lakehouse as a datasource in Power BI Fabric, it defaults to a cloud connection mapped to SSO. In embedded mode, reports built on these datasets fail due to a lack of identity, as they do not inherit authentication from the service principal. To resolve this, users must manually adjust the datasource settings via the Power BI service https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/fabric/fundamentals/direct-lake-fixed-identity   Proposed Solution: Introduce a new REST API or extend the current API functionality to allow programmatic setting (or re-setting) of the connection to the service principal, including updating datasources. The primary axis are outdated and require significant improvement when compared to Excel. Microsoft SQL Server has a very powerful feature by the way of "synonyms." It allows users and DBAs to do all sorts of powerful magic such as rewiring objects under the hood (e.g. run the code against another test database). Synonyms are lightweight and more resilitent than views.   This is more general than lakehouse short cuts. I would like to be able to grant write permissions on a directory-by-directory basis to individual users or target groups in OneLake's "Manage OneLake Data Access."   Currently, "Manage OneLake Data Access" only has settings for "Read" and "ReadAll."   The roles that are automatically granted write permissions are the "Workspace Admin Role," "Member Role," and "Contributor Role." It should be possible to assign a workspace identity to azure sql data sources used in semantic model, assigning the WI should be possible via setting the credential on the data source of the semantic model via the portal (user interface) as well as programmatically via the API update datasource.   enbaling the above will eliminate the hassle of setting credentials for managed semantic models as well as it aligns with the preferred way of authentication when azure services connect to each other. ... Today when I go to look at a Card (New) Visual that I've had working for months with colour conditional formatting, both PBI desktop and online show there being no fx applied. If I go to apply fx, it now results in all cards being white and doesn't function.   I sent my PBIX file to a colleague with an older version of PBI Desktop and when he opens the reports it has fx applied, but when published the fx is gone and appears as mine does. ... Monitor report usage metrics - Power BI | Microsoft Learn   Referring to the steps in the document above, after creating the Power BI usage metrics, I performed the following steps: 1. Specified a new semantic model "Report Usage Metrics Model" as the data source from Power BI Desktop. 2. Switched to the model view and clicked "Make changes to this model" from the menu to change to DirectQuery mode. After changing the storage mode to "DirectQuery" with the above steps,   I can check the storage mode from "Properties," but it is grayed out, confirming that the storage mode cannot be changed.   The storage mode is grayed out. I understand that the "Usage Metric Report" is read-only, so there are limitations in functionality, but it would be convenient if the storage mode could be changed, so I will submit this as a request for improvement. ...
