Want to use key pair authentication access from Power BI to Snowflake.

With a recent update, Azure Data Factory now supports key pair authentication to Snowflake. I would like to unify the authentication method, so I would like Power BI and the on-premises data gateway to support key pair authentication as well.

This should include the option to have Encrypted Key Pairs.

Snowflake will oblige SERVICE user to connect without using the Username & Password, therefore potentially using private/ public key.

At the moment we cannot use key pair authentication to connect power bi to snowflake.

Snowflake will disable LEGACY_SERVICE user as of November 2025

In just a few short months, username and password authentication to Snowflake in PowerBI will be useless, as Snowflake will begin requiring MFA for all user types of PERSON or NULL. I sincerely hope Microsoft is already deep in the process of updating the connector to support encrypted key pair authentication, or this connector is about to become useless.

Echoing the other comments for more visibility. Snowflake is deprecating username/password authentication, so without this update our Power BI to Snowflake connectors will be useless!!

With the change to Snowflake requiring MFA on all users that authenticate via Username/Password, we most definitely need the option to use Key Pair auth in the Snowflake connector within PowerBI. LEGACY_SERVICE user type is a short term solution.

+1 from me. This is essential now that Snowflake discontinues username/password. No key pair support = no connection between Snowflake and Fabric from november 2025.

We also need to start using key pair authentication for mirroring data from Snowflake to Fabric.
