This feels like a Win7 setting as I cannot replicate the problem in Win10. To replicate, open a new PBIDesktop instance and try to create a data source from the flash screen or Home ribbon. There should be a popup screen that reads "SQL Server Database" or "SQL Server Analysis Services Database" or "OData Feed". None of these instantiate. Only data you can get to from an "Open" window seems to work, like CSV. Any other data source causes the application to stop responding. The application must be closed via Task Manager.
