Very much needed feature to support both the Matrix Preview and Hierarchy Slicer.

This is a really important to the end customers. It just needs to look right without a lot of work arounds on the data model side. Please help us with this.

Big gotcha getting people to move off of Excel for Financial Data

Yes! Many of our dimensions are parent/child hierarchies. I'd like for Power BI to support creating true parent/child hierarchies, in a table. (In addition to the current hierarchy functionality, where you create a hierarchy by picking the set of columns, in order, that constitute the hierarchy.) Then, all of the visualizations that can use hierarchies, like Matrix, Bar Charts, etc. should just "do the right thing" with parent/child hierarchies. I think this is the most important feature request out there, right now! It would be such a bigger deal than any of the feature requests that currently have 1,000+ votes. There have been several copies of this "idea" created, with keywords like "parent/child hierarchy," "self-referencing hierarchy" and "ragged hierarchy." Maybe they could be merged?

Excel and Tableau work perfectly with parent-child hierarchies; this is a crucial functionality for those using SSAS data sources with hierarchies.

For Profit and Loss as a Ragged Hierarchy the current Matrix seems to work. For Balance Sheet (which has a little more ragged hierarchal) not so much.

Critical functionality I think ...

The ability to hide blanks on the child hierarchy is critical for drill-down functionality. See this video for more detail: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Km6HmydY7A
