R-Skript-Datasource/"Run R Script"-Transformation without Personal Gateway

As discussed in http://community.powerbi.com/t5/Service/Understanding-how-R-Scripts-work-in-Power-BI-Service/m-p/328687#M37427 it would be nice to be able to use "R-Skript" as a Datasource with public accessible Data - from websites for Example - and the Transformation "Run R Script" in the Query Editor without using a "Personal Gatway" and therefore relying on my local machine which is not practical in a productive BI environment. At the moment, it´s not possible to use "R" or "Run R Script" "stand alone" in the service, would have been pretty great if I could use R for data wrangling instead of M/Power Query with the "Run R Script"-Option. This would bring Power to the next level and open it for a wider community.

a must defnitely. why would we need to install a gateway if all sources are in the cloud?

Would be nice to be able to read data publically available on the web and store this in an Azure DB with the help of R without needing to rely on a datagateway . Because now we need to have a pc up and running to be able to do this although both source and DB(Azure) are online.

I voted although I don't know how much my problem is related to this. my source data is a R script, where inside there are data from a sharepoint that I merge and do plenty of data management in my R script to get one clean dataset (one or several) to be used to into power BI. It seems I can't use refresh data without a personal gateway.

Yes it's very strange that Power BI Service will run R for visuals but not for data manipulation.

Yes, please just use the existing R sandbox design from the R Visuals side and re-use the concept for the data ingestion side. Our use case is simply to run some RegEx's to sanitize some email addresses etc from submitted text during the ingestion process; basic R stuff that PBI can't do natively yet.

I also think the same there must be no need to create a gateway just for the R script. The power BI team need to fix this issue.
