GUI for modifying existing queries in Excel - PBI dataset connection

Hello, community and MS team.

Currently, the Excel - PBI dataset connector allows users to load tables from a PBI dataset (filtering, column&measurement selection) via GUI (the Insert Table option). However, the GUI cannot be called back once the connection/query is set. The only way to modify an existing query/connection (change filters, add columns...) is via the command text dialogue box under edit connection. Is there any way to allow users to call the GUI while editing existing queries? This issue is a blocker for my organization to adapt the Excel-PBI connection, as most Excel users don't like code interfaces.

below is an example of this issue:

  1. The user sets an Excel - PBI dataset connection and "Insert table".
  2. In the GUI, the user selects the columns and filters to create the query
  3. The table is inserted into an Excel sheet
  4. The user performs some analysis and figures out that he or she needs a few more columns to be loaded.
  5. The user goes back to the query, trying to add columns to the table, but can not find the button to call the GUI back.

This issue is also a show stopper for my organization and is preventing us from rolling out what would be a very well received option for connecting to semantic models.

My users are also highlighting this as an issue. The insert pivot table works well but the insert table needs the ability for users to edit and return to the GUI for this to be adopted better.
