Fix Power Query Intellisense

its well known that intellisense has always been broken with things like ListList.Contains

or pressing . after typing certain prefixes does not correctly show options, or typing null enter puts null.type in.

Also a huge issue is no intellisense in Dataflows

both need fixing

Status: Completed

The feature is currently being deployed and entering its preview state. Please be sure to share your feedback in the Fabric Dataflow Gen2 forum:

This is by a far a huge inconsistency, hopefully it will get a fix soon. Dataflows are a nightmare for a new Power BI user from this perspective 🙂

Collaborative work through dataflows has increased, it is quite hard to write M scripts without Intellisense in PQ Online, though. Is there something on the horizon to come up with a solution for that?

One of the things that I like about using the Power BI desktop is that you are able to use the syntax highlighting & snippets / IntelliSense built into the advanced editor. Recently, after working with data flows it has become difficult because the syntax highlighting and IntelliSense doesn't exist on the online version. If this was added like as is on desktop, it would probably save a lot of time for some people from copying from a text editor over to the online app. Even if it was not IntelliSense and just snippets instead, it would make writing queries much easier still.

Hi, The intellisense is a welcome addition to Power BI. However, it seems to work only in the Advanced Editor window. Is there any plan on extending this out to the Custom Column feature in the GUI ?

Intellisense is great, but why not for functions? It would be great to have it also in Excel PowerQuery

It would really be awesome to have built-in intellisense for M language as we have for DAX.

Update 11/19/2024: We're working on enabling intellisense in Power Query Online. We will update this idea once we have more information to share, but we are aiming to have a public preview during the first half of the calendar year 2025.
