Composite models when connected to AS models (PBI datasets and Azure Analysis Services)

We really love the new feature of 'Composite Models' in the Power BI July 2018 update! This enables us to join custom lists with DirectQuery sources. It would also be beneficial if this would also work when connected to SSAS Tabular in DirectQuery. This would stronlgy improve the enterprise features of Power BI.

This would be very helpful. I often need to flag a list of X (supplied in a spreadsheet) to data in our data warehouse and cannot add this in a model built in Analytic Services. To do so would be super useful.

this is a duplicate of https://ideas.powerbi.com/forums/265200-power-bi-ideas/suggestions/34922932-composite-models-when-connected-to-sql-server-anal The other idea has a lot of votes so vote for that idea instead of this one.

@Toby Denbow unfortunately the link is broken, someone has a new link for the other idea?

When connecting to a live SSAS in Desktop, once you've connected "Get Data" and "Recent Sources" goes gray. Please allow for additional data sources to be added in after making a live connection to SSAS.

Sounds like it would be a helpful feature

Very important feature. Need ability to combine multiple sources without having to import data.

I didn't see your post before I made mine with the exact same idea. We need to be able to make a template and switch the data source so we can "plug and play" and not have to re-create the report each time for live connections!

This is a significant limitation, we are currently trying to migrate from SAP Business Objects to the Microsoft platform. However, with Business Objects we can combine queries from multiple universes and then merge the data on dimensions that are the same. My understanding is SSAS is the closest thing Microsoft has to a semantic layer (universe)? In Power BI, you cannot query from multiple SSAS sources or any other data source for that matter once you've made a live connection to SSAS?

We organize our SSAS data sources into subject areas. One subject area per fact table/star schema. We need the ability to merge the data across multiple SSAS data sources as well as pull in third party data source e.g. published census data
