Add a visual variable

It would be very useful to have the ability to assign variable values to buttons. When a button is pressed, it could trigger a change in a variable that controls whether certain visuals are shown or hidden.

This functionality is available in QlikView, where button actions can dynamically set variables, and those variables can then be used to drive conditional display logic. Having a similar feature in Power BI would open up more interactive design possibilities, such as:

  • Creating dashboards where users can toggle between different views without navigating pages.
  • Allowing conditional visibility of charts or tables based on user selections.
  • Simplifying UX by reducing clutter and only showing relevant visuals when needed.

Currently, bookmarks and selection panes provide partial solutions, but they lack the flexibility of variable-driven triggers.

Request:
Could Power BI introduce a feature where buttons can set variable values, and those variables can be used in DAX or conditional formatting to show/hide visuals dynamically?

This would greatly enhance interactivity and bring Power BI closer to the flexibility offered by tools like QlikView.

Thanks for considering this improvement!
