User Metrics

Hi,

Is there a way to track user metrics for the data viewed in Power BI reports that are only published to be export into pivot tables?

Thanks

Hi emmabr. There are two usage metrics you can check on power bi.

1- Default usage metrics: you can turn them on for specific component. Read more: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/collaborate-share/service-modern-usage-metrics

2- You can use the Power Bi Rest API to take logs from the following things: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/admin/service-admin-auditing#operations-available-in-the-...

I hope that helps your requirement

Hi @emmabr ,

There are some Prerequisites before you use it:

1.You need a Power BI Pro or Premium Per User (PPU) license to run and access the usage metrics data.

However, the usage metrics feature captures usage information from all users, regardless of the license they're assigned.

2.To access usage metrics for a report, you must have edit access to the report.

3.Your Power BI admin must have enabled usage metrics for content creators.

Your Power BI admin may have also enabled collecting per-user data in usage metrics. Read about how to enable these options in the admin portal.

You can follow the documentation below to create a usage metrics reports: Monitor usage metrics in workspaces (preview) - Power BI | Microsoft Learn

And then you can analyze usage data in Excel: Monitor usage metrics in workspaces (preview) - Power BI | Microsoft Learn

Need to notice that Excel PivotTables do not support drag-and-drop aggregation of numeric fields when connecting to a Power BI dataset.

Hope this helps you.
