Hi,
I'm attempting to save a generated Usage Metrics Report for a workspace with the intent to build ontop of the stock/pre-built visuals.
Following the guide Monitor usage metrics in workspaces (preview) - Power BI | Microsoft Learn - I've saved a copy of the report to our workspace (where I have admin). However the report does not appear in the workspace once saved. It does appear in home, and in OneLake Catalog. This is the first issue - being that I want other users to access the report through the workspace.
The second issue is the edit button does not appear in the saved copy of the report. When clicking 'view semantic model' I get:
Optimally I would like to download and edit in desktop, however I believe this functionality doesn't exist. If anyone is able to assist with issue 1 (not appearing in workspace) and 2 (unable to edit) that would be great.
Lack of an edit button:
Hi @JamieF,
Just checking, have you had a chance to open a support ticket, as suggested. If so, we'd love to hear the current status or any updates from that.
If the issue was resolved through the support ticket, it would be great if you could share the solution here as well. It could really help other community members find answers more quickly.
Warm regards,
Prasanna Kumar
Hi @JamieF,
If the issue still persists, I’d recommend raising a support ticket with Microsoft. The support team can look into the backend and provide more in-depth assistance tailored to your environment.

Hi @JamieF,
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Fabric Forum Community, and special thanks to @tayloramy and @Jai-Rathinavel for prompt and helpful responses.
Just following up to see if the Response provided by community members were helpful in addressing the issue. if the issue still persists Feel free to reach out if you need any further clarification or assistance.
Best regards,
Prasanna Kumar
Hi Prasanna, I'm still facing both issues mentioned.
Hi @JamieF,
Microsoft just gave me a workaround for being able to find the new copy of usage metrics that you created.
In teh Fabric experience, if you click more and the browse from the left navigation pane:
the copy report will appear:
The product team knows this is an issue and is working on a fix, but for now this is the workaround for accessing the report.

Thanks Tayloramy - Interested to hear when they solve this. Additionally I'm still unable to edit this report - do you know if this is all wrapped up in the same bug? Or is this a me problem?
HI @JamieF,
YOu can't edit the default usage metrics report, but when you make a copy you should be able to edit that one (even though you can't see it in the UI).
Are you not able to edit the copy?
I will test in my environment tomorrow to see if this is occuring with me as well.

Thanks, no I can't edit the copy accessed through the browse tab. Have tried making multiple copies in different spots and still the edit button is not appearing.
I have submitted a ticket to Microsoft about this bug - saving a copy of the usage metrics report should make that copy visible in the workspace. I'lll update here once I get a response.

Hi @JamieF,
This seems to be a recent service regression.
This was also reported here: https://community.fabric.microsoft.com/t5/Service/Usage-Metrics-is-not-visible-in-Workspace-after-sa...
I have raised a ticket with Microsoft and am waiting to hear back.

Thanks Tayloramy, you mention 'For now I recommend making a new report in Power BI Desktop connecting back to the Usage Metrics semantic model.' - when doing this I noticed the data is only available for the prior 30 days. 2 questions if you're able to help:
1. Would this be the case anyway if there was no bug with saving the usage report to a workspace?
2. Is there a way to access a greater period of history (optimally looking for 2 years, or 1 year min)?
@JamieF Usage metrics Report saves only rolling past 30 days data. So its not possible to get historic data greater than 30 days. I would suggest to store the usage metrics data by extracting using Dax Query via Power automate or Fabric notebooks and store it to a sharepoint folder or a lakehouse.

Hi @Jai-Rathinavel,
That's what I originally thought too, however the docs make reference to 90 day periods:
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/collaborate-share/service-usage-metrics#which-metrics-are...
Metric Dashboard Report Description
| Platforms slicer | yes | yes | Was the dashboard or report accessed via the Power BI service (powerbi.com) or a mobile device? Mobile includes all our iOS and Android apps. |
| Report page slicer | no | yes | If the report has more than one page, slice the report by the page that was viewed. "Blank" means a report page was recently added (within 24 hours the actual name of the new page appears in the slicer list) or report pages have been deleted. "Blank" captures these types of situations. |
| Views per day | yes | yes | Total number of views per day. A view is defined as a user loading a report page or dashboard. |
| Unique viewers per day | yes | yes | Number of different users who viewed the dashboard or report (based on the Microsoft Entra user account). |
| Views per user | yes | yes | Number of views in the past 90 days, broken down by individual users. |
| Shares per day | yes | no | Number of times the dashboard was shared with another user or group. |
| Total views | yes | yes | Number of views in the past 90 days. |
| Total viewers | yes | yes | Number of unique viewers in the past 90 days. |
| Total shares | yes | no | Number of times the dashboard or report was shared in the past 90 days. |
| Total in organization | yes | yes | Count of all dashboards or reports in the entire organization that had at least one view in the past 90 days. Used to calculate rank. |
| Rank: Total views | yes | yes | For total views of all dashboards or reports in the organization over the past 90 days, where does this dashboard or report rank. |
| Rank: Total shares | yes | no | For total shares of all dashboards in the organization over the past 90 days, where does this dashboard or report rank. |
and then above this table, it states:
When you select View usage metrics report, Power BI generates a prebuilt report with usage metrics for that content during the last 90 days.
I want to say that this being 90 days instead of 30 is somewhat recent? I could have sword it was 30 last year when I looked at it.

Hi @JamieF,
I'm not positive on this one, but I think the usage metrics report only has 90 days of data, at least there's references to that in the docs: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/collaborate-share/service-usage-metrics
