Hi Team,
Current Setup:
Both users A and B currently reside in Tenant A.
We are working on migrating users from Tenant A → Tenant B.
Data sources: SharePoint, OneDrive, and Databricks.
After migration:
Users will move to Tenant B.
Power BI reports will remain in Tenant A.
Questions:
a. SharePoint migration
Since the SharePoint link will change, where should I update the source path?
Option 1: Power BI Desktop → Transform Data → Data source settings → Change source (pic attached)
Option 2: Power BI Desktop → Transform Data → Source → Advanced Editor
Do I also need to change anything in Power BI Service after migration?
b. OneDrive migration
Since the OneDrive link will change, where should I update the source path?
Option 1: Power BI Desktop → Transform Data → Data source settings → Change source (pic attached)
Option 2: Power BI Desktop → Transform Data → Source → Advanced Editor
Do I also need to change anything in Power BI Service after migration?
c. Databricks (stays in Tenant A)
Databricks will remain in Tenant A.
Steps in Power BI Service:
Go to Workspace → Settings → Data Source Credentials.
Re-authenticate using the new user account credentials via OAuth.
Could anyone confirm if the above approach is correct?
Also, do I need to make changes for SharePoint/OneDrive directly in the Power BI Service, or is updating in Desktop sufficient?
Thanks,

When migrating users from Tenant A to Tenant B while keeping Power BI reports in Tenant A, the key changes involve updating data source paths and re-authenticating connections. For SharePoint and OneDrive, the new tenant URLs must be updated directly in Power Query (Advanced Editor) within Power BI Desktop, as modifying only the Data Source Settings is insufficient since the URLs are embedded in the query M-code. After updating, clear existing permissions in Data Source Settings, re-authenticate with the new Tenant B account, and then republish the dataset to the Power BI Service. Once republished, the Data source credentials option in the Service will be available, where you should re-authenticate to enable scheduled refresh. For Databricks, since the environment remains in Tenant A, no path updates are required; however, it is essential that the connection uses OAuth2 authentication instead of username/password or access token, as only OAuth2 enables credential management in the Service. If necessary, reconnect to Databricks in Power BI Desktop using OAuth2, then republish and re-authenticate in the Service. Going forward, it is highly recommended to parameterize the SharePoint and OneDrive tenant URLs in Power Query, so that any future tenant migrations or link changes can be managed by updating a single parameter rather than modifying multiple queries individually.
I hope this information is helpful. . If you have any further questions, please let us know. we can assist you further.

SharePoint & OneDrive Migration
- Update path in Power BI Desktop: Use Advanced Editor for full control.
- Also update in Power BI Service: Yes—re-authenticate under Dataset Settings → Data Source Credentials using Tenant B accounts.
Databricks (stays in Tenant A)
- No path change needed.
- Just re-authenticate in Power BI Service with new user credentials.
thanks, Data Source Credentials is right now not enabled for SharePoint & OneDrive Migration
Also for databricks, the data source credential is not enabled
Thanks,
Hi @YashikaAgrawal,
For both A and B, both outcomes will end in the same result. Personally I prefer changing it in the advanced editor as that ensures that all transformaions remain the same.
You should not need to make any changes in the power bi service, unless you are using gateway connections for these datasources.
If you made connections on an on prem data gateway for these sources, those connections will need to be updated as well, or rather they should be deleted and new connections to the new resources created.
If you are using personal cloud connect for these connections, then no changes are required in the power bi service/Fabric.
I can't advise on the Databricks part as I do not have experience with Databricks, but your approach seems reasonable from the Fabric perspective.
