Hello,
i would like to report a problem we encountered after the exportation of an Excel file with live connection from Summarized data method in PBI Service.
With every file we export and open with this method after the "Enable Content" step we encounter the following error, before being able to insert the log on credentials:
We ecounter this error with every customers in totally different PowerBI apps.
Any suggestions?
Best regards, Matteo.
Hi,
After we got Excel 2409 everything is ok again for me. Looks like there was an issue with 2408 version of excel 🙂
Hi all,
We are experiencing exactly the same issue. Suddenly, live connections to Excel have stopped working. This happened after we received an update to Excel Version 2408 (Build 17928.20216) in Office365.
A colleague of mine who hasn’t updated their Excel yet and is still on Version 2407 (Build 17830.20210) it does work, so it need to be something to do with the latest update!
It’s important that we figure this out, as we have several hundred users relying on this every day!
Second this. Exactly the same issue here, with 100+ pissed end users as a result, the same users that I just convinced to move from manual exports to live connection.
TL;DR: a resolution would be great 🙂
Hi all, thanks for the quick reply, I'll add more.
Hi @simonefraquelli ,
Regarding your problem, I think there is a problem with the latest version of Microsoft Office Professional 2019 (2409). You can try to roll back the version.
How to revert to an earlier version of Office - Microsoft Support
Also check that these prerequisites are met:
Connect Excel to Power BI semantic models - Power BI | Microsoft Learn
Finally you can try clearing your cache.
Hope this helps

Hello @v-zhouwen-msft ,
the issue is still present today, even with with the new Office updates realesed in the last few days...
I cheked all the requirements were met and i clear the cache but it is still not working with the above Excel version.
Unfortunately the roll back is not an option for us because we can't directly update our customer's Excel version, nor ask them to do so.
Regards,
Matteo

Hi! This error is usually associated with permissions or configuration. Can you check with your admins and ensure that exporting data isn't restricted based on roles or permissions? Also, ensure if sensitity labels are applied that they have the appropriate permissions to export with that label applied. Make sure that the model is configured properly in service and the connections are working properly. You can also send the error Activity ID to your admin and ask them to trace the error in the logs and get more details.

Hi @simonefraquelli -The Excel version you are using is updated to the latest version. Compatibility issues between older versions of Excel and Power BI Service could lead to problems when attempting to connect to live data.
Power BI Service should also be updated regularly by Microsoft, so ensure that the issue is not related to an older or problematic build.
To diagnose whether the issue is with the dataset or report itself, try exporting a simplified report with a small dataset to Excel using the same method. If this works without errors, there may be issues with the specific dataset size or configuration you're working with.
similar issue, you can refer to these documents:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/desktop-troubleshooting-analyze-in-excel#forbidden-error;
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/service-analyze-in-excel#requirements.
or As an alternative approach, you can use the Power BI REST API to automate the export of data to Excel or CSV formats. This method can bypass some of the issues encountered in manual export processes.
Hope the above information and solved links helps.

I have the same problem, in the same way I am the administrator user, for what we were seeing with my team is that it is the update of excel (2409), because users who have the previous version (2408) can still make the connection without any problem
Hi @rajendraongole1 , we are using Microsoft Office Professional 2019 updated to the latest version and this version was working fine unitil a few days ago.
I tried to export the data from a smaller dataset and the issue has remained.
The tenant settings in article nr. 2 were all enabled.
The API solution will not solve the issue beacause our customers need to export manually the data from PowerBI Service.
Hi @simonefraquelli ,
You can extract data and deliver it to your end users using power automate flow with the help of run a query against a dataset, Parse json, create CSV table and send email notification blocks.Even it's possible to send dynamic data by mapping parameters in your users tables.
I hope it will be helpful.
Thanks,
Sai Teja
