Data Flows and Common Data Model When to use

I am confused about mapping my data items to the common Data Model when I am created Flows in Power BI Query in Service

I understand the reasons for doing it but for any of my tables, for example customer, Product etc. I can only map a few data items. Not all are being mapped.

If you can only map a few items, is there a point to it?

Or should you only use it when you can map every item in your data to CDM?

It feels to me like this is for brand new data sourecs, not historical ones where only a few items can possibly map across

Hi @DebbieE ,

Based on this document, You create and manage dataflows in app workspaces by using the Power BI service. Once you've connected and prepared your data, you can choose to map it to a Common Data Model standard entity or load it as a custom entity in the Common Data Model form in Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2.

We can try to load it as a custom entity in CDM form if we cannot map it to a CDM standard entity.

Best regards,

I have read the docucumentation on it but Im still confused about the above question. Is there a point to just mapping a couple of columns in your table If lots of them are not mapped?
