I just spoke to support as I just had the same issue and they recommended as a work-around to set up a subscription to the PBI report itself. This will keep the model 'active' and it won't get disabled. I set it up to run monthly so that it doesn't get too annoying and set up a reminder for 2 months from now to check up on it.. Hopefully this will work.
