PowerBI is failing to autorefresh with error "Microsoft SQL: Timeout Expired"

I have an Azure DB that my reports grab data from, and I've set up my PC to be a gateway, but the scheduled refresh frequently fails with this error message: "Microsoft SQL: Timeout Expired" I've noticed that if I connect to this DB via SQL Server Management Studio that I have issues seeing my tables while the powerBI gateway is running. Closing the gateway fixes the problem. Any suggestions how to fix this?
