Filters & Sorting on Header row in Matrix & Table visuals

To allow for filtering and sorting using the header row in visuals such as table and matrix. This would work in the same way you can sort and filter in Excel.

  • As a user, I want the ability to search, filter, and sort values in a column via its header in addition to independent slicers. I want the same functionality seen in Excel tables in table and matrix visuals within Power BI.

  • There is no filter option in column headers in table visuals. Its very hard to scroll to view the data. It would be very helpful if the column header filter added.

If you design large tables to filter by, like for example customers or products, it's important you can filter by all attributes of customers or all attributes of products.

Currently you only have the option in power bi of creating a slicer on top of the column which allows you then to filter the column. Let's presume you have more than 15 columns for a customer. You want to be able to filter the region, the address, the name, the customer group, the VAT number and so on. You need to create these filters on top of the table. This is cumbersome. I would like to see a functionality like you made available in data view. Basic Filtering and advanced filtering and this for every dimension / attribute you create in the table visual. Also same functionality please in the matrix visual.

This will be perfect and may attract MS Excel users. after all it's a common thing to do in Excel.

  • This feature could allow avoiding having too many slicers on the report canvas. Slicers could be used for most important dimensions but user could still apply filtering on other fields
  • Filters in the title row would avoid placing additional splicers in reports and save space. Also aligns with Excel.
  • Beef up the Matrix hierarchical sorting functionality as per: https://ideas.powerbi.com/forums/265200-power-bi-ideas/suggestions/11185431-add-a-multiple-columns-sort-featue

According to our user's feedback, although we have the filter pan and slicer. But it's not convenient for them. Fo example, just as the above comments, if we use slicer, we have to add multiple slicers once we need filter different columns.

And about the slicer pan, when user want to modify the slicer condition, they have to find the filter from a lot of other filters and it's not a good experience which is from the feedback of our user.

For example, if user has filter A with value "a", once he/she wants to filter another column, the user has to uncheck the "a" on filter A, and then find filter B and check "b" as the filter value.

So, as the use's feedback, if we can have this feature Filters on Header row on table/matrix visual, that will be better for them.

I hardly think I'm the first one wanting this: Enable a filtering drop-down menu at each columns' headers of a table in Power BI.

You have it in Excel, Power Query Editor and Power BI Table View. Why not for Power BI Reports?
