Hi everyone,
According to the notice on the roles of power bi online workspaces : https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/collaborate-share/service-roles-new-workspaces viewers must be able to see / read the data stored in workspace dataflows.
However, when I publish an application the users with "viewer" rights in the workspace that the data come from are not allowed to see the underlying data. Is it a normal behaviour of PowerBi ??
Thanks per advance for your help,
MS document means that viewers have access to aggregate data (i.e., meaure/calculatout output) displayed in visuals. In my experience, viewers do not have the right to view raw data in the data model.
You need to be careful when assigning Admin, Member or Contributor roles to a user because these rights give the user the content build rights. With build rights, users can export the underlying dataset, use the data model to create another front-end report.
The Viewer role does not have editing permissions on the data, so they cannot see the dataflow or dataset in the workspace. But the Viewer role has permission to view and interact with reports or dashboards created using datasets or dataflow.
//Read data stored in workspace dataflows
I think the idea here is that the viewer has read access to the reports, dashboards created using the dataflow.

Gao

How to get your questions answered quickly -- How to provide sample data
Hi, thanks for your answer but i still do not understand.
"The Viewer role does not have editing permissions on the data, so they cannot see the dataflow or dataset in the workspace. But the Viewer role has permission to view and interact with reports or dashboards created using datasets or dataflow."
In facts this is the problem, my "viewers" user can not view and interact with the reports / dashboards created using datasts in the workspace they are in.
i'm sorry perhaps my question is not clear ... 😞
Thanks per advance,
AdminEspelia
Can your viewers see the visuals in the dashboard or not? Are your front-end report and back-end dataset stored in the same workspace?
Hi @EspeliaAdmin - I believe that Workspace viewers would only have access to view Reports in the Workspace. So I am not sure the documentation is right when it suggests they would have access to all the Dataflows. Could one of the Contributors to the Documentation please comment? @DavidIseminger | @Anonymous
