Why is it that the documentation talks for pages and pages about EffectiveUserName, but there is no single line about CustomData??

Once you have selected CustomData, you need to click on the red box in the screenshot below, and then pass in the string you want to pass in:
You can add multiple entries to a rule.
After you choose between effective name and CustomData, you usually need to manually click add rule >> add the string you want to map.

CUstomData is:
A string value to be passed to the engine in the connection string and then retrieved by using the CustomData() MDX function or CUSTOMDATA() DAX function. Most commonly used to pass a userID or username as a value, and then specify that value in the definition of a security expression.
