My company is getting this error for all dataset refreshes that use our On-premises data gateway. We've checked on the gateway status and things look correct. The error is thrown within 1-2 seconds. The admins say they've tried all the troubleshooting suggestions from the internet, no luck. I've tried simplifying datasets to 1 simple table, no luck. Weirdly, a dataset that uses direct query through the gateway does work, so we're stumped.

Solved! Go to Solution.
Solution: There was a SQL certificate that was not selected. Once that selection was toggled, refreshes began working properly.
This has happened once before. For some unknown reason, in the setting below where there is normally a certificate selected, the selection somehow became unselected. All our admin did was to reselect it and apply. I think he also restarted the SQL server.

Hi @ybarsabal ,
Thanks a lot for sharing your solution. It will also help the others if they face the same problem with you.

Hi @ybarsabal ,
Could you please provide the following information in order to make troubleshooting?
1. What's the data source of the related dataset? Are they from multiple data sources? Which connection mode is using?
2. Whether all of the involved data source itself can connect successfully?
3. Whether all of the involved data sources be configured into gateway?
4. Whether the version of gateway is latest one? If no, you can download it from this link and update it to latest one.
5. Any firewall block it?
In addition, you can review the following documentations for troubleshooting in your side:

I would say make sure you are on the latest copy of the gateway and then You could check the Issues forum here:
https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Issues/idb-p/Issues
And if it is not there, then you could post it.
If you have Pro account you could try to open a support ticket. If you have a Pro account it is free. Go to https://support.powerbi.com. Scroll down and click "CREATE SUPPORT TICKET".
