Re-publishing same report on different data set

Hello!

I published a report based on a data set (ReportA).

After few months I created another report and published that one (ReportB).

ReportB has same data source, but with more formulas so I wish to move ReportA to use data set of ReportB and avoid double refreshing.

However, when I move ReportA to ReportB data set and publish, I then get 2 ReportAs and I can't override first report.

I tried renaming data set of ReportA to say "ReportB" and then publish ReportB to the workspace - but then ReportA basically became ReportB and ReportB wasn't published under its name (A's name didn't change, still was ReportA, but showing new information from B report).

Is there any way I can replace first report with new verison that will use different data set?

Thank you in advance!

Hi @Pbix_is ,

1) If you want Report A to be replaced download the report A do all move all the changes you have done from Report B to A and then publish.

2) If you are maintaining the access in workspace level then all the users have the all the reports access available in workspace either it is Report A or B doesn't matter.

Hi @Pbix_is ,

If you need to replace a dataset, you can refer to the following documentation.

Publish from Power BI Desktop - Power BI | Microsoft Learn

Notice : The replacement requires a consistent dataset.

Hi, thank you, but it doesn't help. I wish to move report from its own data set (SQL database) to PowerBI datasets (so base it on a model published to the same workspace via another report). It doesn't seem to be possible.

Hi @Pbix_is ,

You cannot implement one dataset in power bi to replace another dataset. All you can do is either delete the useless dataset and keep the useful one, or merge the two datasets together.

Hi, and thank you. If I delete useless data set, then report disappears as well - it is shared with users so I want to avoid that. I tried these things in the image, just wondering if there is any way I can keep same report A running for users, ut using different data set. I haven't been able to figure anything out. How else could I merge data sets together, maybe that's the answer?
