PBI Service and Python - scheduled refresh

Hi all,

i read that there is no option to scedule a refresh via gateway when a report implies a Phython script.

Is that the case? Is there a way to "fix" that flaw?

One of my users did the report, but he wants others to be able to refresh it, best case in an automated way.

The solution of having everyone installing a personal gateway is not feasible.

Hi @NovaBI ,

Unfortunately I am only a community supporter and not an engineer who designs and develops products.

If you would like to suggest  feature improvements, you may  vote the idea and comment here  to improve this feature. It is a place for customers provide feedback about Microsoft Office products . What’s more, if a feedback is high voted there by other customers, it will be promising that Microsoft Product Team will take it into consideration when designing the next version in the future.

Hi @NovaBI ,

Unfortunately this is by design.
If you want to refresh your Python reports, you can only do so through the Personal Gateway.

Use personal gateways in Power BI - Power BI | Microsoft Learn

Can you/somebody explain me why that is an issue? Is it caused by the need for Python/R installation?

Hi @NovaBI ,

It‘s not an issue,It’s by design. R/python only support Personal gateway.

That's not an answer to my question. "It's by design" is a very generic comment about a technical question I hear too often from MS, i am interested in the "why is it by design?". And from my user's perspective, it is definitely an issue, as it is impossible to share a dataset/report that can only be refreshed via a personal gateway. We are talking about a PBI Premium Capacity licensing model. Not about 3 people sharing stuff to each-other via PBI Desktop or a Pro-License model...

So to keep it simple -> What is the Microsoft propsal for refreshing datasets with R/Python?

Keep my users pc running 24/7? Installing a personal gateway on 30 machines for people who could potentially need a refresh?
