On-premises data gateway Offline

Hi, I got this error message and the On-premises data gateway is in offline status.

Gateway or datasources not reachable.

May I know how to fix it?

Thank you.

Hi @EdithWong  - Please do the below troubleshoot activities once when the gateway is offline

1.Open Services on the gateway server.
2.Look for "On-premises data gateway service".
If it is stopped, start the service.

Ensure the machine running the gateway has internet access and can reach the Power BI service endpoints.Port 443 must be open for outbound traffic.

Logs can be found in the "C:\Users<GatewayUser>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\On-premises data gateway" folder.Look for recent errors or exceptions in the logs.

Hope this works

Hi @EdithWong , thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Fabric Community Forum.

  1. Gateway Offline: This error typically indicates that the On-premises data gateway is offline, not running, or unable to connect to the data sources. Network issues, gateway service status, and configuration problems can cause this.
  2. HKFYG Data Warehouse Connectivity Issue: This error suggests a specific issue with connecting to the "HKFYG Data Warehouse (new2024)" dataset. It mentions network connectivity issues, possibly due to regional restrictions or firewall settings. It also suggests updating the gateway software.

The common factor between these errors is network connectivity. If the gateway is having trouble connecting to the internet or the Power BI service, it could result in both types of errors.

Try below:

  1. Verify that the gateway machine has a stable internet connection.
  2. Check if the On-premises data gateway service is running and restart it if needed.
  3. Make sure you're using the latest version of the gateway software.
  4. Ensure that the firewall or proxy settings aren't blocking the required connections.
  5. Review the gateway logs for more detailed error messages or clues about the connectivity issue. Logs can be found in the C:\Users\<GatewayUser>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\On-premises data gateway folder.

If this helps, please consider marking it 'Accept as Solution' so others with similar queries may find it more easily. If not, please share the details.
Thank you.
