I have an on-premise gateway connected to a MySQL database. From my understanding the data should refresh even if my laptop is off/asleep since I am not using a personal gateway but it fails everytime my laptop isn't on. Am I doing something wrong?
Solved! Go to Solution.
No, what you want to do is to install the gateway on a server or PC on your network that is always on. Or, on an Azure VM that is connected via VPN to your network.
Is the gateway installed on your laptop or some other server?
Installed on my laptop
OK, it doesn't matter if the gateway is a personal gateway or the enterprise gateway. In both cases, the gateway is the Power BI Service's link to the on-premises data. If it's off, no connection path to on-premises data = fail.
That makes sense. Is there a way to connect it to another services so that is refreshes when my laptop is off? If so, is there a service you recommend?
No, what you want to do is to install the gateway on a server or PC on your network that is always on. Or, on an Azure VM that is connected via VPN to your network.
