Dataset API summarizing values incorrectly

Hi all,

A customer is using our product to create PowerBI reports with Japanese content. Unfortunately, some similar words are being summarized despite being separate words.

The issue is around these two characters "あまぞん" and "アマゾン". The data for these rows are merged in PowerBI online, but they are different characters so the user expects the values to not be summarized. The other data associated with those rows is summarized as well.  Is this intentional? I was able to confirm that the original dataset has them as separate rows. Is there anyway to prevent them from being summarized?

I can provide a specific dataset for debugging.

Thanks,

Christina

HI @chstead,

Can you please share a sample pbix file to test. Will report this issue If I can reproduce it.

Notice: please do mask on sensitive data before sharing or share some fake data with same structure.

Regards,

Xiaoxin Sheng

@Anonymous Is there a way to privately share this with you since this is customer data?

Hi @chstead,

Actually you only need to create some fake sample data contains keywords "あまぞん","アマゾン" which used to reproduce your issue. I want to confirm if this issue is related to 'Japanese localization'.

@Anonymous I can't download the pbix as it's been created with the REST API. I was able to create a dataset with the issue. Is there any other way to get the dataset to send to you?

HI @chstead,

You can use copy table function to copy records, then paste to excel and remove sensitive data.

After these operations, you can upload it to onedrive or other web drives and share link here.(if it still contains some privacy data, you can use 'private message' function to share link)

Xiaoxin Sheng

@AnonymousI don't see a copy table option in PowerBI online. This dataset was created with the REST API. I'm not actually able to open the dataset in excel due to 'security' issues with Japanese characters, but I'll pm you the excel file regardless.

HI @chstead,

Actually, copy table feature means when your data model generate, you can enter to data view and right click on table, then you will find the copy table option.

Unfortunately, I can't open your files on my device due to policy reasons.

BTW, I already test with japanese characters which you mentioned on my side but can't reproduce your issue. So I'd like your file to test.

In addition, you can also submit a support ticket to power bi team for further support.

Did you create the dataset using the API? I'm able to reproduce with the API 100% of the time.
