Dataflow

. Check Data Source Credentials

  • Ensure that the credentials used for the data sources in the dataflow are correct and have not expired.
  • Go to Power BI Service > Dataflows > Select your dataflow > Settings > Data source credentials.
  • Re-enter the credentials if needed and ensure that they have the required permissions.

2. Verify Data Source Connections

  • Ensure that the data source connections are still valid and accessible.
  • Test the connection to the data sources outside of Power BI, if possible, to verify that they are operational.

3. Check Gateway Configuration

  • If your dataflow uses an on-premises data gateway, ensure that the gateway is online and correctly configured.
  • Go to Power BI Service > Settings > Gateways and check the status of your gateway.
  • Ensure that the gateway is properly linked to your data source and that the data source settings match those in your dataflow.

4. Inspect Dataflow Queries

  • Open your dataflow in Power BI Desktop or in the Power BI Service and check the queries for any issues.
  • Validate that the queries are not causing the refresh to fail. This might involve running the queries manually to see if they return the expected results.

5. Review Dataflow Dependencies

  • Ensure that any dependencies or other dataflows on which your dataflow relies are functioning correctly and refreshing as expected.
  • Check if there are any upstream or downstream dependencies that might be affecting the refresh.

6. Examine Refresh History

  • Check the refresh history for any failed attempts or partial refreshes.
  • Go to Power BI Service > Dataflows > Select your dataflow > Refresh history. Look for any unusual patterns or timestamps that might provide clues.

7. Review Error Logs

  • Even if there are no visible error messages, check if there are any logs or diagnostics available in the Power BI Service or your gateway logs that might provide more details.

8. Test Dataflow in Power BI Desktop

  • Try exporting the dataflow and importing it into Power BI Desktop.
  • Perform a refresh in Power BI Desktop to see if the issue replicates. This can sometimes help identify if the problem is with the dataflow design or the Power BI Service.

9. Update Power BI Service and Desktop

  • Ensure that both Power BI Service and Power BI Desktop are updated to the latest versions. Sometimes, updates contain fixes for known issues.

10. Contact Power BI Support

  • If none of the above steps resolve the issue, consider reaching out to Microsoft Power BI support for further assistance. Provide them with detailed information about the dataflow, refresh attempts, and any steps you've already taken.
