Creating a Report using Power BI Service

I want to know if its possible to create a report in service using a data flow. My data is on prem SQL server I have set up the data gateway and connection. What am I missing to allow me to use that data to create a report? I don't want to use desktop.

Hi @medbea ,

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Fabric Community.
Thank you @lbendlin for your prompt response.

You cannot create a new data model from scratch in Power BI Service. It must originate from Power BI Desktop.

Here are some resources to get you started with connecting to On-Prem data gateway ( ex: On -Prem SQL server ) from PowerBI.
What is an on-premises data gateway? | Microsoft Learn
How to download: Install an on-premises data gateway | Microsoft Learn
Configuration in Service: Add or remove a gateway data source - Power BI | Microsoft Learn

no, you can only create a report off a semantic model.

that is not relevant to your ask.  You need to have a semantic model.

Do you have documentation on how to create a semantic model and connect it to my gateway?

Sorry, I don't understand the question. Are you asking how to get the data from your on prem SQL into a semantic model? Do you want to use import mode or Direct Query mode? If you don't want to use Power BI Desktop then you would have to do all the necessary steps via the REST API.
