Hi everybody,
I would like to ask you some information about the integration of One Drive and Power BI. The organization for which I work wants to know which are the use case for the scenario of One Drive and Power BI.
Is there a smart and easy way to develop the dataset connecting to a One Drive of dev and then switch to One Drive of Prod once we deploy the dataset in prod?
Thanks in advance,
Regards,
Simone
Solved! Go to Solution.
Kindly follow the below steps to connect and extract the data from SharePoint/Onedrive.
Step1: Navigate to SharePoint file location and click on respective file as shown below and click on Open and click on Open in App.
Step2: Click on “Open Excel (desktop)”, as shown in below
Step3: Click on “Copy link to clipboard”
Step4: Now open Power BI desktop and click on get data and click on “Web” as shown in below
Step5: Then paste the URL copied on step3 and remove “?web=1” from url as shown below and click on Ok.
Step6: Now select “Organizational Account” option and click on Sign in option and then enter your Thermofisher credentials and click on connect.
Step7: and now you can load or edit the data on Power BI desktop and then you can build your report.
Later, if you want switch your connection from one location to another location, just click on tranform data option and click on data source settings option and then change you source and provide required details to complete the data source switching.
Kindly go through the below reference links which helps you on the same connection with different ways.
Kindly let me know if any further clarifications required.
Thanks,
Lavan
Yes, you can use a feature called Deployment Pipelines for that. However, for starters, you can instead just make a parameter to hold the url of your dev OneDrive location, and then simply update it with the prod url when ready.

Hi Simone,
Do you want to change from dev to production the dataset or the PBI Report?
Personally I would suggest to you use directly Sharepoint instead of One Drive. Sharepoint has more options for connecting and better access/security option.
In case you would like to know some Sharepoint + PBI usecases, let me know.
