I have a pivot table I created using 2 fields. I would like to use a slicer so a date range can be requested. I dont know if this is possible since a date field is not part of the pivot. I am new to PowerBI so any help is welcomed. Thank you
Hi, @gingersnap
Thanks for Kedar_Pande and parry2k's replies. What is your current data holdings, can you share your non-sensitive data and what you expect to achieve, if it can be in the form of a picture it will help us to better understand your needs. There may be other ways to realize your requirement.

Thank you for replying. Unfortunately it is not part of the pivot. Thats my issue.
Is there anyway around this? Do I just need to create a separate report and use a parameter? Since I am creating a pivot, I cant use a direct query, so I am not sure how to use a paramter.

Good morning. Any luck? If not please do not spend anymore time on it. I have another issue I am going to post. Thank you VERY much for your willingness to help.
I dont know how to unlock it.
@gingersnap It will be easier if you share pbix file using one drive/google drive with the expected output. Remove any sensitive information before sharing.

The data is from a test database. Page 2 has what the final pivot should be. I very much appreciate your help.
@gingersnap Yes keep the date in the table, create a pivot without the date column, and use the date for filter.

Thank you so much for the quick reply.
I remove columns, including the date column, before I create the pivot. Can I leave the date field in, create the pivot? Can I create a pivot once I get to the report/visual area?
Since I am new, I dont know how to keep the date in the table but out of the pivot. Can you explain how I can do this?
@gingersnap If you have a date column in your model that you wish to slice on, it doesn't need to be on the visual. It all depends on how your model is created, and what kind of relationship have between tables.
in the end, the column you want to slice on doesn't need to be part of the visual.
