Hi there,
A few weeks ago I started getting the following error in PowerBI Desktop when I was opening some existing reports I have saved to my local machine or ones that I have downloaded from my PowerBI Server.
When I open a report for the first time and after a few seconds of loading, I am getting a terminal popup flash on the screen for a second and then disappear. A few seconds later, the visual that the date slicer controls will change to 'Error fetching data for this visual'. I've been able to isolate the issue down to it being my date range slicers that appear throughout my reports, however there is no useful information when I click the 'See details' prompt.
As far as I'm aware, there have been no changes to my machine. I am on the latest version of PowerBI (and have tried uninsalling and reinstalling a number of times). I've also got 2 colleagues who are able to open these reports without any issues.
I should also mention that I am running PowerBI Desktop on a Mac and through the latest version of Parallels. This has been working seamlessly for over 12 months and as a troubleshooting option I have installed a new Window VM and a fresh copy of PowerBI desktop, but still the same error.
Any ideas on why this has only recently started happening (within the last month), and how I can resolve it?
Terminal that flashes up temporarily before showing the error message on the visual
Error that shows up on the visual after the terminal above has opened and closed
Error message that comes up when I click 'See details'
Thanks in advance,
Jay

Hello,
I am running into this exact same issue, except I am using a microsoft surface pro 11. I am also using the May 2025 version of PowerBI. Please advise.
The error still occurs using the April 2025 version when running on Parallels/MacOS
Hi @jay-rad ,
May I ask if you have resolved this issue? If so, please mark the helpful reply and accept it as the solution. This will be helpful for other community members who have similar problems to solve it faster.
Thank you.
I tried reinstalling Parallels and all other tools with no luck.
I ended up downloading the Feburary 2025 version of PowerBI and it worked fine. So this issue has come up in the March 2025 release.
Hi @jay-rad
Unfortunately, Microsoft does not officially support Power BI Desktop on macOS, even when using virtualization tools like Parallels. While it may have worked well for you for over a year, unexpected issues—like the one you're facing now—can arise due to the unsupported setup.
Here are a few things you can try:
Reinstall the virtualization tool you're using (Parallels) or consider switching to a fresh setup.
Fully uninstall and reinstall Power BI Desktop, not just update it.
Try running Power BI Desktop inside a clean Windows VM (e.g., via VirtualBox or directly on a Windows machine if possible).
If your colleagues with Windows devices aren't experiencing the issue, it likely confirms the environment (Mac + virtualization) is the root cause.

I have this exact issue on the May 2025 release. I am using Microsoft Surface Pro 11. The issue seems to be isolated to when the Date Slicer setting is set to Between or After.
Also, as a workaround I have 2 versions of PowerBI installed. One from the Microsoft store which is the latest so I can open reports created by colleagues and are no longer compatible with the old version.
I then have February 2025 installed separately which I downloaded directly from the Microsoft website.
Not ideal, but at least I can do most of my work on the old version.
Thanks for adding your issue here too, I'm surprised its happening on a Windows machine as well.
All of my date slicers will be between as well, but next time I have a report open I'll check what happens if I change it to a different option.
Do you also have a PowerShell/ Terminal window pop up for a second or two before it then errors?
The error still occurs after an install and a fresh install of the April 2025 version when running on Parallels/MacOS
