Hi all,
I was forced to reinstall Power Bi desktop and after the installation I get the message on my maps that the visual type will be retired
I update from "Map" to "Azure Map" and then its completely blank, I've tried to:
- Reinstall again
- Use lat/long instad of country name
- Use simple test data (see picture)
- Admin enabled "Users can create Maps (prewiew)"
How do I get Azure Maps to work ?
I created a simple test setup to see if i could get it to work, all the data is in the table
I'm supposed to deliver a new dashboard and now it does not work, please help - Many thanks

Hi @isThatAFrog ,
The blank Azure Maps issue is indeed caused by a tenant level configuration specifically the Azure Maps visual toggle under Admin Portal - Tenant settings - Visual options. Many admins mistakenly enable the Users can create Maps (preview) option, which no longer affects the Azure Maps visual. Once the correct toggle is turned on and the change fully propagates across the tenant (which can take up to 24–48 hours), the visual starts rendering properly again.
Hi @v-sshirivolu
It did not help, as I wrote in the description it is the latest version and the sample data is correct in any way which will make it work in any other map visiual including the old version of maps.
I did reach out to an admin, he tried to change some setting for our PBI environment which did not work in the first round, however a few days later it did work. I suspect that he did play around with some other settings later...
I do not know what did the trick, but it is working now

Hi @isThatAFrog ,
The blank Azure Maps visual you’re seeing usually happens for a few common reasons. First, make sure you’re using the Azure Maps visual and not the older Map visual, because older visuals can cause problems. The data is also important, Azure Maps needs valid latitude and longitude values or correct location names, so it’s worth checking for typos or formatting issues. Also, make sure your Power BI Desktop is updated to the latest version, as older versions can have compatibility problems. You should also check that map visuals are enabled in your settings and try clearing the cache, since cached data can sometimes stop the visual from showing.
Some users have noticed that the visual can still appear blank even with correct data, or work in the Service but not in Desktop, which shows there can be occasional quirks. In these cases, clearing the cache or reinstalling the visual usually helps. Overall, checking your data, updating Desktop, and managing the visual solves the issue in most cases. If it still doesn’t work, sharing a sample of your data or any error messages will help figure out the rare cases.
