sql date refresh frequency settings

Hi,

I wanted to make sure I'm not missing something on options of frequency for sql data source refreshes.  My understanding is that with direct query, it queries the database in realtime as user interacts with the report and import refreshes only when you schedule your refreshes (up to 7 times a day).  We have data that we want in near realtime but it's a little slow, say 30 seconds to load so we've been using direct query.  I'm fine with having to wait 30 seconds once for my data to refresh but it seems like each time you filter and change your report, it's refreshing directly from the datasource which is really slow.  It would be nice if there was an option to refresh the data in bulk per session and then as you interact with the report, it's using the data from the intial session load.  Is there an option like that? Hi @lgroger ,

You are correct that everytime you are modifying a report or dashboard that a Direct Query will query the dataset.  This is the good/bad of Direct Query - you are not storing/caching any data locally BUT, that means that with every change, the system goes back and re-queries the data.  There is no option that I am aware of that would stop this behaviour as this is the designed method.  If at all possible, you can change to Import and that would stop the constant re-query aspect of the report.....but, you may intentionally be on Direct Query for other reasons.

Thanks for your response @collinq .  We do want Direct Query b/c we need the data refreshed more than 7 times a day.
