shared datasets when Azure Private Link enabled

I need confirmation about something in the Microsoft documentation:
Private endpoints for secure access to Power BI - Power BI | Microsoft Learn

My organization needs to block public internet access and to enable all traffic to Power BI over Azure Private Link.  Does this mean that we cannot use shared datasets anymore?  That is, we can't source multiple reports from a single dataset?

Hey @mr_wizard ,

I'm not 100% but I think it's possible to create thin reports, meaning connecting reports to a semantic model.

From the article you mentioned:

"If internet access is disabled, and if the Power BI semantic model, Datamart, or Dataflow Gen1 connects to a Power BI semantic model or Dataflow as a data source, the connection will fail."

Is about creating composite models, one of the many reasons we did not turn "private links" on.

I highly recommend reaching out to your Microsoft representative because I'm pretty sure that it will be more complicated to turn that feature off again, after you turned it on

Regards,

Tom
