We have a query that returns back a few years. when run locally int he dekstop version, the delay isn't too long. However, when the report is published, as the data passed through the gateway, there is a delay. I was curious if there was a way to detect its the published report and return like the last 2 years, instead of the last 10 years. Or, set a row like like 10,000.

If you use import data when connecting to data source, you could take GilbertQ's advice.
with power bi parameter, you could limit rows as you expected.
