data source credentials - issue with invalid credential

Hello.

I have access to a power BI report and dateset. The owner highlighted the report not updating and I think I have found the issue.
When I try refresh the dataset i get the following - The credentials you provided for the data source are invalid. Please check the credentials for all the data sources.

Please try again later or contact support. If you contact support, please provide these details. When I go to "data source credentials" and edit credentials I have the following powerbi dataset error.pngThe owner says data is public and there is no key (or at least they don't use a key when accessing it via python. ) Am using online version of powerBI so not sure if that is an issue either. Any help appreciated.

Fixed it. In my case, it turned out the issue was caused by the CosmosDB firewall settings. I had originally only allowed a couple of trusted IP addresses and the Azure Portal – but it turns out that wasn't enough for data refreshing. After I also enabled connections from public Azure datacenters, it worked. With something of a delay, perhaps 2-3 minutes; be patient – individual IP addresses are whitelisted immediately after you receive confirmation in the Azure Portal, but for some reason these more complex rules take a bit longer to get applied.

@Anonymous have you been able to fix this? I'm encountering the same issue, except I also own the CosmosDB instance. I'm using the same read-only key both for PowerBI Desktop and for refreshing the data online – the desktop version works flawlessly, but when I try it online I receive the same error you reported.

Hi @BogdanStancescu So yes sorted it. From what I can gather when you set this up first time it is without a key. At some point it then wants one. Being azure the key is there so it was a case of adding it. I added it on the desktop which worked fine.
I do have an odd issue where azure hasn't got recent data, but I do now have azure and powerbi matching.

Hi there

I would suggest contacting the owner of the DocumentDB and requesting them to create you a Key, which you could then put into the data source credentials.

Hi @GilbertQ  Can only see Key. No other options.

Hi there

What if you change the authentication method to "Anonymous"?
