Yet another refresh question

It baffles me and i hope someone can provide consise and definiteve answer. I use PoweBI desktop app to create and upload reports. Once uploaded new values are shown online. but dashboard stays the same, even though i manually refresh it.

It made me thinking that perhaps each time i "publish" the same report it is seen as a new set of data, instead of update to previous values, can someone confirm or deny? And if that is the case then how do i update values manually from Desktop app without recreating Dashboard each time?

1. Create report in Desktop app:

2. Publish:

2.PNG

3. Refresh dashboard:

As you can see the old value remains.

Hi @Ansicone,

Based on my research, a tile is a snapshot of our data, pinned to the dashboard, so when we republish the report to service, the tile data will not be changed. But when we click the tile into report, you can see the visual is updated.

In your scenario, you need to Pin a live page to the dashboard, the tiles are live. And you can interact with them right there on the dashboard. After republish the report, the tiles are updated correspondingly in the dashboard.

If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

@Ansicone if i understood you correctly, if as you said "the old value remains" then shouldn't it be 71 + 71 = 142 but its not. I think report that you publishig via power bi desktop had data from the source that was 71 when it was connected and data was loaded in pbix file. and when you're refreshing datasetin power bi service it is getting refreshed from the data source which has chaged meanwhile and so it is showing 120 in power bi service.

in any case data refresh in power bi service is full and not detla for your information. also maybe check that you don't have filter or such applied in the desktop report.

Thanks for quick reply.

I had data that showed 120 in desktop app.

Published report showed 120 value. PInned that to dashboard it showed 120.

On desktop app I've added fiter to this data and it changed to 73.

Published report and it showed also 73. Refreshed dashboard and it still shows 120.

If i was to unpin the "old" tile and "re-pin" it to the dashboard then new value of 73 would be visible.

This lead's me to believe that once data is re-published is considered as new, because it doesn't tie in with previous associations (to the dashboard).  Very strange - don't know how to refresh by publishing without manual dashboard recreation.
