Utilizing Power BI Service on Mac (Completing a tutorial)

I have a basic question about the type of files that can be uploaded to Power BI Service by a Mac user.

I am trying to complete a tutorial as a preliminary step towards attaining a Power BI certification.

This is the tutorial: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/create-reports/service-from-excel-to-stunning-report

This is what the tutorial shows will show up when I go to upload:

This is what is shown when I follow the instructions in my version of Power BI Service:

And this is what is shown when I try the "Upload" option:

It is not possible for me to convert the tutorial Excel file to a .pbix or .rdl file.

Was there a change with file-type compatibility for Power BI service? Is this happening because I am on Mac? Or am I just turned around?

Hi @BenPrasifka

As it stands of today, the. PBIX files are not compatible or work on a Mac. You will need a Windows computer to download and instal power BI desktop, which will then create the PBIX files for your example.

Hi @BenPrasifka ,

Power BI is not compatible on MAC, and regarding your question, the answer is no.

If you would like to suggest feature improvements, you may vote the idea and comment here to improve this feature. It is a place for customers provide feedback about Microsoft Office products . What’s more, if a feedback is high voted there by other customers, it will be promising that Microsoft Product Team will take it into consideration when designing the next version in the future.

Thank you for the answer.

Why does the step-by-step guide picture show xlsx. as a compatible format for upload? Is that picture from an older version of Power BI Service?

I do not have access to a Windows computer for this project. Is there a way to emulate Windows on Mac? Or to emulate a Windows desktop?
